Use-Cases and Compatibility
The right Maxi-Cosi car seat depends on your child’s age and size, your vehicle and how you plan to use it.
- For newborns and travel systems
A baby capsule clicks in and out of the car, so you can carry your sleeping baby without unbuckling them. The Maxi-Cosi Mico 12 LX Pro ISOFIX suits babies up to around 12 months, while the Mico Plus with ISOFIX and Mico Plus Non ISOFIX suit the first 6 months. Both pair with many popular prams using the right adaptors, and spare bases such as the Mico 12 LX Pro ISOFIX Spare Base make it easy to move between two cars.
- For one seat from birth to 4 years
A convertible car seat can be used rear facing from birth and then turned forward facing as your child grows. The Maxi-Cosi Pria LX is a compact option that helps fit three seats across in many cars, and the Pria LX G-Cell ISOFIX adds ISOFIX fitting and G-CELL® torso protection. - For easier access in and out of the car
If you have a smaller car, a sore back or a wriggly toddler, a rotating seat can make buckling up much easier. The Maxi-Cosi Raia 360 LX turns a full 360° to face you at the door. See more options in our rotating car seats collection.
- For toddlers and older children
Once your child outgrows their convertible seat, the Maxi-Cosi Tuva LX keeps them in a built-in harness for longer before moving to a booster. For children around 4 to 8 years, the Maxi-Cosi Rodi AP Booster is light enough to move between cars.
Keeping Your Maxi-Cosi Car Seat Clean and Safe
Car seats see plenty of spills, crumbs and everyday mess, so regular care helps keep them comfortable and working as they should. Always check the instruction manual for your specific model.
Wash covers as directed - Many Maxi-Cosi seats have removable, machine washable covers. Follow the care label and make sure the cover is completely dry and refitted correctly before use.
Clean the harness gently - Wipe the harness straps with a damp cloth and mild soap rather than soaking or machine washing them, unless the manual says otherwise.
Check the fit regularly - Check the seatbelt or ISOFIX connection, top tether and harness height often, especially after moving the seat between cars.
Replace after a crash - A car seat that has been in a crash may need replacing even if it looks fine. Check the manufacturer’s advice and warranty terms for your seat.
What to Check Before You Buy:
- Match the seat to your child’s stage
Check the suitable age and shoulder height markers for each seat. In Australia, babies must travel rear facing until at least 6 months, and many parents choose to keep them rear facing for longer.
- Check how it installs in your car
Some Maxi-Cosi seats fit with ISOFIX, while others use the vehicle seatbelt with SMART Lock®. Make sure your car has the right anchor points and a top tether point where needed.
- Think about space in the back seat
If you need to fit more than one seat, or you have a smaller car, compact seats like the Pria LX can make a real difference.
- Consider your daily routine
A capsule that clicks onto your pram suits short trips with a newborn, while a rotating seat suits frequent getting in and out of the car.
