BabyBjörn Bouncer Guide (2026): Bliss vs Balance Soft and Which Fabric to Choose

Updated October 2026

The BabyBjörn Bouncer Bliss and Bouncer Balance Soft are the same bouncer underneath: BabyBjörn says their shape, functions and features are identical and the fabric seats are interchangeable. Both weigh 2.1kg, suit babies from birth (3.5kg) to about 2 years, rock using your baby's own movements, fold flat and turn into a toddler chair. The real choice is the look and the fabric: the Balance Soft has a two-tone seat with a cosy nest, while the Bliss has a single-tone seat in mesh, 3D Jersey or quilted woven fabric. Here's how the BabyBjörn bouncers we stock compare, and how to choose.

Bouncer Bliss Air Mesh: coolest for Australian summers

BabyBjorn Bouncer Bliss Air Mesh baby bouncer with breathable mesh seat

The Bouncer Bliss Air Mesh uses BabyBjörn's 3D mesh, a 100% polyester fabric that lets plenty of air through and releases excess heat. That makes it the pick for warm homes, summer babies and little ones who get sweaty. Mesh also dries quickly after washing and keeps its shape, which helps with the inevitable spills and nappy leaks.

Like every Bliss, the fitted seat supports your baby's back, neck and head, and the frame bounces gently as your baby kicks and moves. No batteries, no motor and no noise.

Watch for: never iron mesh or wash it with fabric softener, as both damage the fabric.

Bouncer Bliss 3D Jersey: the softest feel

BabyBjorn Bouncer Bliss in soft 3D Jersey fabric

BabyBjörn calls 3D Jersey its softest, most velvety material. The blend of 80% polyester, 16% cotton and 4% elastane stretches to gently hug your baby, so the Bouncer Bliss 3D Jersey feels snug for newborns while still giving them room to move.

It's a good all-year choice, particularly for cooler months or if you prefer a cosier, plusher look in the living room.

Watch for: it doesn't breathe as freely as mesh, so in a hot house without air conditioning the Air Mesh is the cooler option.

Bouncer Bliss Woven Petal Quilt: a classic quilted finish

BabyBjorn Bouncer Bliss with Woven Petal Quilt fabric seat

The Bouncer Bliss Woven Petal Quilt has a seat in 65% recycled polyester and 35% cotton, quilted in a petal design with a rich, lustrous finish. It's durable and soft, and the quilting gives it a more tailored look that suits a neutral nursery or lounge room.

Watch for: woven fabric doesn't have the stretch of 3D Jersey or the airflow of mesh, so choose it mainly for the look and durability.

Bouncer Balance Soft Woven/Jersey Tri-Fabric: a cosy two-tone nest

BabyBjorn Bouncer Balance Soft in light beige Woven/Jersey Tri-Fabric

The Bouncer Balance Soft Woven/Jersey Tri-Fabric is BabyBjörn's "cozy nest" design. The main body is woven (65% recycled polyester, 35% cotton), while the nest where your baby lies combines soft jersey with breathable mesh. The two-tone seat is the main visual difference from the Bliss; the frame, sizing, positions and toddler chair function are the same.

Watch for: BabyBjörn has renamed the Tri-Fabric seat "Bouncer Bliss Tri-Fabric", so you may see the same two-tone seat sold under either name.

Accessories that fit both

The wooden Toy for Bouncer – Googly Eyes and Toy for Bouncer – Soft Friends fit all BabyBjörn bouncers, with spinning shapes made from wood and BPA-free plastic. If you'll take the bouncer to the grandparents' or on holidays, the Transport Bag for Baby Bouncer fits both the Bliss and Balance Soft and keeps it clean in storage.

Using a bouncer safely

  • Awake time only: Red Nose advises using bouncers only for short, supervised play while your baby is awake, never for sleep.
  • Move sleeping babies: if your baby dozes off, move them onto their back in a cot, bassinet or portable cot. Red Nose notes that inclined surfaces over 7 degrees are not safe for infant sleep because a baby's head can tip into a chin-to-chest position.
  • Harness on, snaps locked: BabyBjörn says to always use the safety harness and check the snaps are locked in bouncer mode.
  • Floor only: never place the bouncer on a table, bench, bed or other raised surface, and keep your baby in sight.
  • Know when to switch: stop using it as a bouncer at 9kg or once your baby starts trying to sit up.

Which BabyBjörn bouncer should you choose?

  • Your home runs warm or you have a summer baby: Bouncer Bliss Air Mesh.
  • You want the softest, most cuddly seat: Bouncer Bliss 3D Jersey.
  • You love a quilted, tailored look: Bouncer Bliss Woven Petal Quilt.
  • You like a cocooning two-tone nest: Bouncer Balance Soft Tri-Fabric.
  • You're torn: pick the colour and fabric you like best. The bouncers perform the same, and the seats swap between frames.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between the BabyBjörn Bouncer Bliss and Balance Soft?
Very little beyond the look. BabyBjörn says the shape, functionality and features of both models are the same and the fabric seats are interchangeable. The Balance Soft has a two-tone seat with a cosy nest; the Bliss has a single-tone seat. Both weigh 2.1kg, suit babies from 3.5kg to 13kg and have three positions.

Can my baby sleep in a BabyBjörn bouncer?
No. Red Nose advises using bouncers, rockers and swings only for short, supervised play while your baby is awake, never for sleep. If your baby falls asleep in the bouncer, move them onto their back in a cot, bassinet or portable cot that meets Australian safety standards.

What age and weight is a BabyBjörn bouncer suitable for?
From birth (at least 3.5kg and 53cm) to about 2 years. It is used as a bouncer up to 9kg or until your baby starts trying to sit up, then as a toddler chair up to 13kg once your child can walk and sit down unaided.

How do I turn the BabyBjörn bouncer into a toddler chair?
Once your child can walk and sit down without help, turn the fabric seat around on the frame. It then works as a low children's chair for children up to 13kg.

Which BabyBjörn bouncer fabric is best for hot Australian summers?
Mesh. BabyBjörn describes its mesh as a breathable, high-tech fabric that lets air through, releases excess heat and dries quickly after washing, which suits warm homes and babies who run hot.

Can you wash the BabyBjörn bouncer seat?
Yes. The fabric seat comes off the frame and is machine washable at 40°C. Wash it separately, use a mild detergent, and don't tumble dry, iron or use fabric softener (softener damages mesh).
