UPPAbaby Cruz V3: narrowest, with an overnight bassinet
The Cruz V3 is the narrowest of the three at 57.2cm, which helps in tight shops, cafés and apartment lifts. The seat works from birth with the included infant insert and lasts to 22.7kg, and the 13.6kg basket is the biggest here. Choose the Cruz V3 with bassinet and you get a bassinet suitable for overnight sleep, which can save buying a separate one early on.
Watch for: the bassinet is a separate piece to store when your baby moves to the seat. If you think you'll want a double later, the Vista V3 is the Cruz's bigger sibling.
Silver Cross Cove 2: best for rougher ground
The Cove 2 is an all-terrain pram built for footpaths, grass and gravel. Its Genius Fold carrycot folds flat with the pram in one movement, while still attached, and the pram stands on its own wheels. A two-position elevation system lifts your baby 50mm closer to you, and the rain cover and cup holder are in the box.
Watch for: it's the heaviest at 12.7kg with the seat, and the carrycot is rated to 6 months for daytime sleep only.
Babybee Alto: the lightest
The Alto is Babybee's premium single pram. At 10.8kg with the seat it's more than a kilo lighter than the others, and it has a 13kg basket. It folds one-handed with the bassinet, the seat in either direction, or just the frame, and the bassinet itself folds in half for storage.
Worth knowing: Baby Little Planet doesn't stock the Alto, so you can't try it next to the others in our showroom. If light weight is your priority, the Cruz V3 is the closest pram you can test in store.
Which single pram should you choose?
- You live in an apartment or shop in tight spaces: Cruz V3, the narrowest.
- You walk on grass, gravel or beach paths: Cove 2, the all-terrain option.
- You lift the pram in and out of the car every day: the Alto is lightest, and the Cruz V3 is next at 12kg.
