How to choose the best pram for a newborn

  • Measure your car boot and the space at home where the pram will live, then check the folded size in the chart.
  • Lift the pram if you can. Weight matters most if you use stairs, public transport or a small car every day.
  • For a newborn, decide whether you want a bassinet or carrycot, or a seat that lies flat from birth.
  • If you're planning a second child, compare single to double prams and check which parts are sold separately.
  • Push it in store: test the fold, handlebar height, brakes and basket access before you commit.
  • Look for compliance with the Australian standard for prams and strollers, AS/NZS 2088.

Pram comparison FAQs

What's the difference between a carrycot and a lie-flat seat?
A carrycot (or bassinet) is a separate unit that gives a newborn a flat, enclosed space to lie in. A lie-flat seat reclines fully so it can be used from birth without a separate bassinet. The chart shows which prams include a carrycot and which offer it as an optional extra.

What is a single to double pram?
A single to double pram starts as a single and takes a second seat or carrycot with adaptors when you need it. Prams marked as single to double in the chart can be converted. Check the product page to see which parts come in the box and which are sold separately.

When should I move my baby from the pram bassinet to the seat?
Follow the weight and age limits the brand gives for the bassinet, and stop using it once your baby can roll or push up on their hands and knees. Many families move to the seat around 6 months, once their baby has good head and upper-body control. Check the product manual for your pram.

Why are some specs shown as a dash?
We only list figures the brand has supplied for that product. A dash means the figure isn't on our product page yet, not that the feature is missing. Ask our team in store or online and we'll check for you.

Can I see these prams in person?
Many of our prams can be viewed at our Hoppers Crossing store, so you can test the fold and push before you buy. Contact us first to check a particular model is on the floor.
